Tonight our President Martin Sunderland completed his year in office. As is the custom, the retiring president presented an evening of his own choice of films and cutouts and the evening was completed with a supper of good old Yorkshire pie and peas.

A welcome visitor tonight was the film maker Marc Seccombe from Doncaster. Marc has been the very English voice on many of our regions films. He presented a wide selection of films. The outstanding one being on the life of the composer Elgar.

Planet PC brought an array of new technology along to the club. High definition cameras and the latest Adobe software were on display. The new version of Adobe After Effects was demonstrated and appreciated by the members. Also two new potential members were introduced to the club. It was a very good evening.

The Categories were Holiday (won by Harrogate with their excellent "Meet the Chinese"), Documentary (won by Bradford with Martin Sunderland's "Portrait of an Artist") and Free Choice (won by Bradford with Jim Walker's "Good Neighbours). Result 7-5 to Bradford.

Tonight's competition was the highly enjoyable Film to a Theme competion titled "Recycling". The competition was won by Martyn Webster with a film showing how, over the years, he had recycled parts of old cars and created his own design of car for his own use.

Tonight we held two competitions. The 5 minute and the Edit in Camera competition (from the Summer Walks). The quality of the entries was really good and the Edit in Camera was won by Martin Sunderland with his close up views of nature at Chellow Dene.

Allan Vanston won the 5 minute competition with his excellent film of Bingley Show. A really good evening enjoyed by all.

A chance was given to air your views in the club on all topics of film making. True to their word, the engineers in the club had corrected the projector's colour problems last week. Also shown were old favourites : Streets of Hanoi: The Nuclear Bunker: Angels Delight: and The Poser. A very entertaining evening.

Another judging competition. This time between South Shields and Bangor in Northern Ireland. Bradford members voted for the best in three categories - Documentary, Holiday and Free Choice. The unanimous winner was South Shields. For us it was a refreshing chance to sit back and see how the others make films. Very enjoyable.

Michael Gough was the guest speaker at Leeds Movie Makers tonight. All club members were invited. 6 members from Bradford attended along with members from Huddersfield. As expected the show was of a very high standard. Michael is a popular figure in the cine world. He issued an open invitation to the 2-day IAC 75th birthday celebrations on Saturday 30th June at the Bradford Museum of Film, Photography and Television.

Batley were our guests tonight in our 50-50 Competition.The programme was as follows - " No Problem", "A Day at Carlisle Castle", "Hadrian's Wall", "Papy", "Hurricane Holiday", "Georgetown and the loop", The Magic Drink" and Castleford Ladies.

Matthew Pells from the BBC Bradford Office was also there to tell us about the "Big Screen" in Centenary Square and how the club may benefit.

The club also got five new members tonight - Harry & Mary Nichols, Ian & Judith Simpson and Andrew Cockerill who are all members of Leeds MovieMakers.

Tonight was the Edit in Camera Competition when members saw the results of their filming at Oakwell Hall on 10th July 2006. It was also the Five Minute Competition. Both of these were judged this evening.

The Edit in Camera winner was Peter Jones with his film of Wycoller and the Five Minute winner was Colin & Ian Egglestone's film of wartime Britain.

Tonight we were hoping for a good turn out at Oakwell Hall near Batley when all were asked to make a film of the evening and hand in their unedited results to be shown later in the year. It was a nice evening but we couldn't find Martyn, our President, at 7.30pm so Ken Lightowler opened the filming at 7.45pm and we video filmed away until Ken closed the evening at 10pm.

The club met to view Alan Vanston's film of last week's walk at Fulneck. It was excellent. The club members were also shown how to set up the projection equipment during Peter & Jackie's holdays. The evening ended with a film of the regeneration of Bradford and Pedro's delightful film of Kiri Ti Kanawa making a CD of "South Pacific".

A treat for all our members as good friends Ken & Carol Wilson entertained us with more of their Phase 4 films. They showed clips from their compilation of advice from other clubs, which was very enlightening. Steve Walker from our club filled in with his clever "The Morality Game" before Ken Wilson topped off the evening with a well crafted comedy film "Sinking". A very entertaining evening.

Bradford visited Calderdale for a contest for the best film shown by Bradford, Calderdale and Branwell House. The winner was Bradford with "Holiday in the Canaries" by Phil Burton.

Food and drinks all round as President Maurice Reynard comes towards the end of his year in office and entertained us all on his special night. David Marshall brought the pies and peas and the Secretary, Jackie, provided the quiz which was won by Norma Webster. Maurice showed "The Plank" from the 70's which everyone enjoyed.

Batley Cine Club were at our Club tonight as they took on Bradford in this challenge match. Jim Kenworthy was the judge. Some outstanding films were shown and there were gliches on a couple of films but Bradford became the winners with a 9 - 3 victory.

John Entwhistle from Huddersfield Cine Club entertained us with a show of his own films. He showed some lovely "Talking Heads" shots including one about a young boy of 9 who has the brain of a grown up. Well done and thank you, John.

Practical Night

Martin Sunderland entertained his fellow members with a Practical evening of his choosing. A few weeks ago he gave interested members a copy of a video he made of his visit to Italy. He asked each one to edit from the 45 minute original a presentation or trailer lasting just a few minutes.

Tonight the results were shown and discussed. The films were astonishing. 9 members entered and each one had a completely different slant on the others.

Martin has been asked to put forward another Practical Evening for the next syllabus.

Tonight was our Annual Dinner. Again it was held at the Masonic Lodge in Bradford. The winner of the Annual Competition was announced and Trophies distributed to other prize winners.

The Winner of the Annual Competition was Jim Walker from Laycock with his fiction film "The Chair". Well done Jim.

The winner of the whisky bottle competition was Dave Marshall with his first throw. Thank you everybody for a lovely evening.

John Orrell from Mercury Movies was our guest showman this evening. He showed some beautiful videos of Majorca and other holidays abroad which were well received by our members.

Huddersfield visited our club tonight for the Challenge Match, Huddersfield v Bradford. The judge was John Orrell from Mercury Movies.

The victors were Huddersfield winning the Documentary and Free Choice categories. Bradford won the Holiday section. A good evening of excellent films.

Holiday making members were invited to show their holday films tonight to be judged in our own cinema. The judge was Dave Moreton from Leeds MovieMakers who made some helpful comments and awarded the prize to Peter & Jackie Jones for their film of a holiday in Switzerland.

Tonight Des Monks from Harrogate Cine Club was unable to be with us. Instead the club had the privilege of seeing a DVD of films made by members Northside Cine Club in Sydney, Australia. A really good show, in particular the Video of the Year, "Rebel" with amazing 3D animation.

The Film made by some members of our club at the 2005 Bradford Festival, having now been edited by Jack Yorke and Tony Cutts, had its premiere at our club tonight. Also shown was Jack's attempt at 16:9 widescreen and it looked pretty good on the new Widescreen Screen.

Jim Kenworthy was with us tonight with some of the IAC awarded films. Jim explained the workings of the IAC, of which he is this year's chairman, and recruited some converts. The films shown were from all over the world and some were very professional and enjoyed immensely by all our members.

Two prominent members of Leeds MovieMakers, Maureen & Ian Hemingway, were the guest presenters tonight and entertained us with a selection of their films. Maureen's skill and love of Photography shone through in every film. Ian's amusing presentation also added to the enjoyment. We look forward to their next show.

Jack & Norma Yorke invited members of the club to make a film to their script during this evening. The idea was "Double the Membership" which involved all the members playing two parts. The evening was mayhem with a few disasters but time flew by and we await to see the whole film at Christmas.
